You can download a pdf version of them below. They have been working well so far so I wanted to share them with you too. Hence my renewed effort to be more organised this year! Free printable routine chartsĪs a start, I have made a few charts for my kids to set out their daily routine, both morning and night. As my eldest is off to high school next year I really want to ramp up our organisation and help him get used to the idea of school timetables and schedules. My eldest two kids, aged 11 and 10, are both on the spectrum and over the years we have moved from simple visuals through to routines and schedules. They are the key to helping reduce daily anxiety as well as helping our kids clearly understand expectations of behaviour and the order in which to complete daily tasks. If you are a parent of a child on the autism spectrum, organisational charts, routines, schedules and visuals are possibly already part of everyday life. Because it does make life so much easier for me and for my children. I can’t promise it will last forever but I do hope my organisational zeal hangs around for a while yet. I’m usually playing catch-up so it’s a strange feeling to be on top of things for once. The checklist helps them keep track.I’ve made a real effort to be a lot more organised this year. Or, because our days fly by so quickly, sometimes they don’t remember if they’ve done them yet that day or not. These are all activities they like to do, but sometimes get busy or distracted and legitimately forget. I also added reminders to make sure they have everything they need before they leave for school, and to make time to read and practice their musical instruments. There’s a reminder to take their vitamins to help fill any nutritional gaps in their diet and to support their overall health†. In addition to chores and personal hygiene, I’ve added reminders for other daily tasks. Other chores like dusting, vacuuming, and weeding are household responsibilities that we work on as a family.Īs for personal hygiene, I wish my kids didn’t have to be reminded to brush their teeth and shower, but they seem to always “forget” unless they’re reminded. The chores in our daily routine are tasks that teach my kids to clean up after themselves. Our daily routine list is NOT a chore chart, even though it includes daily chores like cleaning up after breakfast and dinner. Our daily routine includes a variety of tasks including chores, hygiene, and personal responsibility. The short answer is – anything you want to ensure your kids do each day. What Should be on the Daily Routine List? That’s why a printed daily routine helps. Visual reminders help us establish good habits. I have to keep my vitamins next to the coffee to remember to take them each day. If I don’t keep my moisturizer beside my toothbrush, I forget to apply it at night after I brush my teeth. Then I realized that I’m just as guilty of similar offenses. He’s had to listen to countless phone calls after the kids have left for school listening to me rant about the dirty dishes in the sink and crumbs on the counter even though I’ve reminded them to clean up after themselves hundreds of times. As a parent, I spend a lot of my time complaining to my husband about how my kids can never remember to do the things I remind them EVERY SINGLE DAY to do.
